Completed in 1937 and reimagined for the 21st century, Camden Town Hall has undergone a meticulous eight-year restoration led by Purcell architects. The project blends Lutyens-inspired design with modern sustainability. Original features such as marble staircases, terrazzo flooring and brass fixtures have been carefully preserved. The building now operates without cars, single-use plastics or fossil fuels. With an Excellent BREEAM rating and a 60 percent reduction in carbon emissions, it is a model for low-impact restoration.
The transformation extends beyond architecture. Inside, Town Hall has become a civic and cultural landmark for King’s Cross. It is a venue for celebration, creativity and connection. From grand halls to intimate rooms, each space is designed for adaptability and is fully accessible. Modern technology is discreetly integrated throughout. A living roof supports urban wildlife and captures rainwater, while sustainable materials and smart infrastructure ensure the building is ready for generations to come.
